This route follows the Rusagonis Stream into one of Atlantic Canada’s most incredible and expansive wetlands, continuing into the Oromocto River towards the Town of Oromocto.
Both the stream and the river feature a slow, gentle current, with no hazards or rapids. However, the length of the route and its relative isolation make it better suited for intermediate paddlers.
It’s a great all-season paddling trail and a reliable option when water levels are low in other areas. You won’t encounter any development along the way, so paddlers should come prepared with sufficient food and water.
This full-day route takes you through a beautiful wilderness area that is especially stunning during the fall colours in September and October. The landscape is entirely natural, with the Rusagonis and Oromocto rivers winding like veins through a vast, semi-forested wetland. The route also offers several enchanting side channels and extensions, rich with beaver habitat.
The area is abundant with wildlife, including waterfowl, eagles, and herons. It’s also common to spot deer along the river’s edge.
