Colwell’s Wharf to Foshay Lake Loop

From the wharf, turn right into a narrow, tree-lined channel with minimal boat traffic. The first section of Foshay Lake opens into a wide, grassy basin rich with ducks and other wildlife. Continue past the basin to reach a second, larger wetland lake surrounded by Ducks Unlimited features. Once you’ve had a chance to explore the lake turn via a dugway that leads into a wider river channel. Those with less experience or paddling with children may prefer to return the way they came.

Colwell’s Wharf to Lower Musquash Island Lighthouse

Head left from the wharf down a wide, tree-lined channel that sees more boat traffic as it connects to Washademoak Lake. After about 1.5 km, the lake opens up to the left. Continue past Hog Island, known for black tern nesting, and watch for wildlife along the grassy shoreline. Across from the lake entrance, you’ll spot the Lower Musquash Island Lighthouse—a charming small lighthouse on stilts that once guided boats into the channel from Washademoak Lake.

Extended Paddle to Lower Musquash Island Lake

For experienced paddlers or those looking for a full-day outing, continue down the channel for 6 km to where it joins the main Wolastoq (Saint John River). Around the bend, a narrow channel leads into the secluded Lower Musquash Island Lake. Although this lake can also be reached from Queenstown Wharf, this route avoids crossing the busy main channel and offers a quieter approach through scenic backwaters.
