Nasis Stream Loops

Situated in a large wetland the Nashwaaksis Stream is a calm, natural refuge on the northside of the City of Fredericton. It’s a delightful paddle, beloved for shady afternoon paddles on hot days and quick afterwork evening excursions. The narrow, protected stream is perfect for short paddles on windy days. It’s perfect for beginners and families, but appreciated by paddlers of all skill levels.

The area’s status as a flood zone has left it an undeveloped and forested world away from the city. It’s home to wildlife including several beavers and many species of birds. In some sections, hanging trees create a shaded, cathedral-like atmosphere.

Nashwaaksis Stream Loop

There’s little-to-no current, so paddlers can run up or down stream from the main launch. At normal summer water levels, paddlers can travel about 1.5km upstream before it becomes too shallow and rocky and about 700 metres downstream into the Woastoq (Saint John River). After a big rain or at high water, there’s an additional east branch route that can add another kilometre of paddling.
Much further up stream, the Nasis provides rare thrills for whitewater enthusiasts during the spring freshet or very high water. The class II-III whitewater route ends at the Sunset Drive stone bridge before waters slow and become calm for recreational paddlers lower down.
